The government of Orissa's Resettlement and Rehabilitation Policy, 2006 is being hailed as one of the best lucrative policies in R&R so far across the country. The company will give due respect to the guidelines laid down in the policy and will make all possible efforts to provide the locals who are directly and indirectly affected by the project a better life for tomorrow.
Earlier, the company has adjusted its plant layout over 60 times in a bid to minimize displacement. The company is attempting everything possible within its limits to ensure that the policy is implemented in its true spirit and in a highly transparent manner. POSCO India is continuously working towards establishing transparent interfaces, continuous monitoring & support for smooth implementation of R&R amenities. The issues and concerns of affected people will be addressed through RPDAC and appropriate grievance redressal mechanism.
As a part of the rehabilitation benefit the original displaced families losing homestead land and agricultural land will be given employment, cash compensation varying from 1 lakh to 5 lakhs, and house in resettlement habitat. Similarly families losing all agricultural land will be compensated with the best land value in recent 3 years and simultaneously would be entitled to jobs and cash compensation.
There is provision for cash compensation for the separate families like major sons, widowed and major unwed daughters and the handicapped. In addition, vocational training through training centers in Sandhakuda in Paradip and existing facilities in and around Jagatsinghpur would be utilized for enhancing employability of the affected people for sustainable livelihood.
Best possible relocation site with all basic amenities like proper sanitation facilities, roads, water and electricity will be provided by the company for the benefit of displaced people. Furthermore, landless and homesteadless will be adequately compensated in accordance with the Orissa R&R policy. Betel vine growers will get special compensation as per the guidelines of the policy.
