POSCO-India joins hand with Government of Orissa to care for children with special needs
Collaborates with District Administration for Polio corrective surgery camp in Jagatsinghpur

Jagatsinghpur, Jan 29, 2007: POSCO-India, the Indian subsidiary of the third largest steel manufacturer in the world today participated in the three-day district level camp for polio corrective surgery at Jagatsinghpur. In partnership with state government, the company has taken a leading role in providing necessary assistance for this endeavour.
The surgeries starting today will continue till January 31, 2007. The screening procedure started on 28th January and will conclude by today afternoon. The expected number of children to undergo surgery is 100 and they will be under observation for a week post surgery. A total of 175 children from eight blocks; (Jagatsinghpur, Balikuda, Biridi, Naugaon, Raghunathpur, Erasama and Kujang) have been identified all across Jagatsinghpur, where POSCO-India plans to set its 12MTPA steel plant.
Keeping in line with its corporate sustainable management the company has taken up the cause of young children with special needs. This activity is a continuation of the company’s intention to provide people with a better tomorrow. Earlier POSCO-India had organized a cleft-lip & palate correction surgery camp, the first of its kind in the state for the children of Jagatsinghpur and had cured 27 children.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Soung-Sik Cho said that “This concerted effort is a model partnership between Govt. of Orissa, district administration, POSCO-India and others towards an equitable society" he further added, “we hope this effort value-adds to the lives of these children and enables them for a better future.”
An experienced team of surgeons and anaesthesiologists from Gujarat and Saurashtra will conduct semi-major & minor surgeries on the screened children. The full recovery might vary from six to eight weeks depending on the nature of the surgery. All the children will be provided with calipers and crutches according to individual needs.
Sarva Siksha Abiyaan, Jagatsinghpur in collaboration with PNR Society, Gujarat is in charge of management of the camp. The CDMO, Headquarters Hospital, Jagatsinghpur has provided three wards and has made provision for hundred beds for the camp.
