  • Scholarships for undergraduate students, exclusively, from POSCO-India plant site
  • Scholarships amounting to USD 500 with provision for renewal
Bhubaneswar, 8th December 2007: Twenty Nine students from Utkal University, KIIT & BPUT were awarded Scholarship of Merit by POSCO TJ Park Foundation, S. Korea in a simple function held at POSCO-India Fortune Tower Office in Bhubaneswar on 7th December, 2007. The function was chaired by Mr. Soung-Sik Cho, CMD POSCO-India. Distinguished guests present on the occasion were Prof. L.N. Mishra, Vice-Chancellor, Utkal University, Prof. S.R. Dey Sarkar, Vice-Chancellor, KIIT University and Prof. O.N. Mohanty, Vice-Chancellor, BPUT.

In addition to this, POSCO-India for the first time is introducing scholarships for undergraduates exclusively from the plant site area from this year. Thirty five names have been selected for the scholarship giving priority, exclusively, to the to-be-displaced families and families belonging to the economically backward sections of the society. The Scholarships shall be handed over later on.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Soung-Sik Cho, CMD POSCO-India expressed, “Through this scholarship outstanding students will be motivated to excel in their fields of study as well as inspire the less privileged students to pursue higher education.” Prof. O.N. Mohanty, Vice-Chancellor, BPUT spoke about POSCO as a role model in Korea and said that POSCO-India would play the similar role in changing the quality of life in Orissa.

POSCO TJ Park Foundation was represented by Mr. T.S. Hong in India. Each felicitated student shall be awarded with a Scholarship of US $500 per year with a scope for renewal for the subsequent years based on performance. The Scholarships are entirely merit based and recommended by the respective Universities and Institutions to the TJ Park Foundation.

Prof. S.R. Dey Sarkar, Vice-Chancellor, KIIT, stressed on the need for sustained effort by the students to excel and never take things for granted in this age of competition. Prof. L.N. Mishra, Vice-Chancellor, Utkal University stated that scholarships always act as great motivators and should be encouraged at all levels. Mr. U.B. Pattnaik, Executive Director, POSCO-India offered the Vote of Thanks while wishing the students all the very best for their future.
