Bhubaneswar, November 22, 2007:POSCO, in association with Habitat for Humanity, India had initially planned to construct 70 houses at an initial investment of Rs. 4000,000 at Jagatsinghpur in January 2008, under the ‘No Roof Campaign – POSCO Youth Build’. The houses are essentially meant for poor people of the locality. However, due to perceived risk of exposing life of volunteers to the unpredictable resistance from anit-POSCO agitators, such a noble mission had to be shifted to a different location near Delhi. Poor people from Jagatsinghpur missed one opportunity to live in better houses.

Under this program 100 South Korean University Students in association with Indian University Students would contribute their labour as volunteers for a period of 15 days commencing from 22nd January 2008. The volunteers would build house for the poor on ther land by contributing voluntary labour and using habitat funding arrangement.

Committed to CSR initiatives world wide, especially in India, POSCO also participated as a silver level sponsor and lent volunteer support in the Habitat for Humanity’s IndiaBUILDS campaign under Jimmy Carter Work Project - 2006 (JCWP’06) at Lonavala, Maharastra, last year.
