Synopsis: In a positive development, United Action Committee of POSCO project areas have agreed to hand over their land to POSCO if the latter fulfills all their demands. The outfit has submitted their 5 point charter of demands to the district administration in presence of POSCO officials.
The sarpanchs of all GPs in proposed plant site as well as village leaders had recently come together to form the committee to bring peace in the region. Their important demands include providing compensation of Rs 25 lakh per acre of Govt. land, Rs 40 lakh per acre of private land. Besides it demanded inclusion of families staying on Govt. land as displaced land & jobs for all families in the 3 GPs apart from better health, education, drinking water facilities, adequate pollution control measures and allocation of five percent of the profit for welfare of the people. In a significant development, replying to the suggestion of Company's Executive Director Mr. U B Pattnaik for a detailed socio-economic survey before assessing the demands, the UAC has assured to allow the survey work after discussion with the villagers.
