Synopsis: As health is generally regarded as a key issue in community development, POSCO-India adopted this strategy to try and earn the goodwill of local people at Jagatsinghpur on 10 th July, by summoning a team of doctors from Korea for a cleft lip and palate surgery camp.
Mr. Soung-Sik Cho, CMD, POSCO-India said, “We observed that cleft lip is a widespread problem among locals. Hence, we decided to introduce this specialized medical and surgical assistance for the betterment of the locals.” He said that the company had drawn up a comprehensive CSR plan and will work with the State and District Administration towards ensuring the welfare of the people.
30 patients have been identified so far for this purpose. The surgery will be carried out at the Cuttack SCB Medical College and Hospital and all expenses will be borne by POSCO.
Mr. Duryodhan Majhi, Minister of Health, Govt. of Orissa urged industrial houses to come forward and assist the State Govt. in setting up medicine banks in all district and block headquarters of the state and supply medicines to the poor free of cost. The camp is being conducted by a 13-member team, comprising medical professors from the dental department of Seoul National University. Dr. Pill-Hoon Choung, Dean, Dental Department, SNU heads the team.
